Design Studio 4
This semester's design studio encourages sustainability in our design building with deep considerations of the site context surrounding the designated site. By working on the two projects designated to us, I was able to incorporate the knowledge and design skills guided throughout the semester to achieve the respective learning outcomes.

Project 1
We were to design an Info Green Shelter with our university as the site context. The function of the shelter would be to allow students to rest and wait for the arrival of their transport while gaining knowledge and information about the gallery next door, which have been neglected and unnoticed. Despite the functionality, sustainabilty of the shelter is also introduced so users are aware of the eco-friendly shelter.
For our design, the concept of our shelteris to create an awareness for the students about the recycling of materials at the same time the existance of the gallery. The design derived from the flow and emergence of concrete from the existing concrete ground. With bamboo strips as the underlay, users can experience a change of man-made to natural environment as they walk from the site into the shelter. Solar panels are incorporated into the design to recycle solar energy to electrical energy for the electronics and sockets in the shelter.
Project 2
For project 2, it is divided into various submissions, each allowing us to improve and gain more information about the site that we are given.
Project 2a
We were introduced to BELUM Rainforest located in Pulau Banding, Perak. We had a 4D3N site visit there and have collected as much information of the site as possible during our stay. Thus for this part of the project 2, we were to produce a complete set of site analysis of BELUM. In the meantime, we were also to produce a 1:200 scale model of the site and the resort on the island.

Project 2b (Final Project)
For the final project, we were to design a Nature Appreciation Centre for BELUM Rainforest at the cape of the island, Pulau Banding. Based on the site analysis that we have collected, I have concluded that I would want my design to focus on the view and exposure to the surrounding nature. I would want the visitors who come to my building to feel closer to nature, and at the end of their journey inside my building, they would be curious enough to take the jetty and leave for the untouched nature further away into the rainforest. Thus, the aim of my building has become clear; giving the users enough information about the rainforest and local natives living inside the forest, and allowing them to further expand their knowledge and experience of nature by having hands-on experience inside the nature.
